OpenEngagement Shared Content
Improve the way you work
In addition to creating software for the accounting and auditing communities, as part of
its community focus, OpenEngagement is committed to
establishing forums where accountants and auditors can exchange information that will benefit the industry as a whole.
Some of the initial projects OpenEngagement is developing are sites where users can exchange Best Practices, Firm Knowledge, and Smart Content.
Best Practices are accessed and tracked through CaseWare Scenarios.
Scenarios allows firms to easily demonstrate to clients their current financial performance and how the picture
would change under certain scenarios or what-if's, including the implementation of Best Practices. Currently
Scenarios includes a limited collection of Best Practices, and firms may enter additional Best Practices,
which are in the form of text, generally one to four sentences.
This is useful, but firms using Scenarios will
benefit from access to a large collection of Best Practices, particularly industry-specific Best Practices. For
example, a firm may then use CaseWare Scenarios with a client in an industry the firm is not familiar with.
The firms would download from a central OpenEngagement Best Practices web server various Best Practices
for that industry, and can then discuss these practices and the financial implications of implementing them with
their clients.
Firm Knowledge refers to the knowledge bases managed by the upcoming OpenEngagement KMS software product. Firm knowledge will collect and store
information crucial to the work processes of your firm on a central, secure OpenEngagement server. This information will then be available for download to your firm's server, as needed.
Examples of the type of information Firm Knowledge will manage include:
-Industry-specific checklists
-Documentation of various open source or proprietary software applications
-Information about Sarbanes Oxley or other laws and regulations pertinent to the accounting and auditing communities
-Information about processes for firms, such as the use of two monitors per computer, scanning and shredding paper documents and so on
Smart Content refers to structured content, such as CaseView knowledge libraries or data
in XML format. This is data relevant to accounting and auditing firms that has a richness beyond plain
text. OpenEngagement is developing platforms where firms may maintain Smart Content and share it with the
wider accounting community.
