Searching Overview
Up one level
There are two ways to search: from the search box in the upper right corner of every page, and the search tab that appears on Areas, Entities & Sections. From the search box in the upper-right, after doing a search, users can optionally proceed to the advanced search.
The search boxes in the upper right of every page, and advanced search, are known as site searches. Searching using the Search tab for an Area, Entity or Section will only search within that Area, Entity or Section, and so is known as local search. Both types of search will return only objects that the current user has permission to view.
Site Search
Site Search may be used to locate any object type.
Site search is not available for Anonymous users.
Local Search
Local Search may be used to locate Documents.
The fields available in the Search tab will vary depending where in the site hierarchy the user is currently. For example, when on an Area, the Search tab will provide tabs where the user can specify which Entity and Section to look in. But when the user is located on an Section, there is no need to ask the user which Entity and Section (or Area) to look in, so these fields are not shown.
For each of the date fields, the Search tab provides two form fields, so users may specify a range of dates to search for. In all cases, it is possible to specify just one of these dates. For example, users may search for all Documents with a period end date before a specified date, or after a specified date, or between two specified dates.
Users may specify the Entity in which to search for Documents, using either the long name or short name.
