Why did CaseWare choose to use open source for OpenEngagement?
CaseWare chose to make OpenEngagement an open source initiative because we feel that the open source format allows for the highest quality and lowest cost software, as well as the maximum collaboration with and input from users such as yourself. As we are dedicated to providing the best possible applications for the accounting and auditing industry, we feel that this collaborative, community focus will result in high-quality applications that fit your needs the most.

As an open source application, will OpenEngagement be stable?
Yes. Well-designed open source software is as stable (if not more so) than similar proprietary software. Plus, at OpenEngagement we have chosen to use only software that has endured for many years (Plone and Zope) as our products' framework.

What open source framework is OpenEngagement built on?
OpenEngagement has selected Plone, a powerful yet easy-to-use open source content management system, as its starting point. We have customized Plone to fit the unique needs of the accounting and auditing community.

What is Plone?
Plone is a powerful yet easy-to-use open source content management system. It is used by industry and governments on tens of thousands of web servers. Plone is an excellent platform, with hundreds of contributors, but because it is a generic content management system, it is not suited specifically for the accounting and auditing industries. OpenEngagement, therefore, has extended it extensively to use workflow, security, audit trails, email notifications, reports and so on appropriate for accounting and auditing firms.
