How long will it take to set up OpenEngagement?
This depends on whether you are using a Local or Hosted Solution. Firms can be up and running much faster with Hosted Solutions. However, much of the setup required is the same for both Hosted and Local Solutions.

What is required to implement OpenEngagement's local solution?
Firms must dedicate a server for the DMS with adequate RAM and harddrive space. Hardware requirements are provided in the online help. Firms must then download and run the installer. The installer is quite easy to run and should only take 20 to 40 minutes to run depending on the hardware used. Firms must then do some configuration, most of which is quite easy other than perhaps specifying the email server. The DMS sends email notifications to staff when certain events occur, for example, engagements become ready for review or have completed review. In order to send these automatic email notifications, the DMS must be able to connect to the firm's email server.

Firms using Local Solutions must also arrange for full backups. This is provided for Hosted Solutions, but not for Local Solutions. Because the DMS keeps all the files in one central location, however, arranging for a full backup is made easier than where the files are located throughout a firm's network.

Firms using Local Solutions are also responsible for making their own security provisions (such as restricting access to the computer on which the DMS server is installed), ensuring their server's uptime and executing necessary backups, restorations and upgrades.

Once these tasks are done, the remaining setup tasks for a firm are largely the same as would be for a firm using a Hosted Solution.

Please note that if you choose OpenEngagement's local solution that OpenEngagement's support and consulting are available to you should you need them.

What is required to implement OpenEngagement's hosted solution?
Very little is required of you when you choose OpenEngagement's hosted solution, as we at OpenEngagement take on the responsibility of installing, hosting and maintaining your OpenEngagement implementation. You will not need to buy additional software or hardware. We do ask that you have reliable Internet connections to ensure that your firm will be able to access your hosted solution.

To begin using the system, firms must create their user accounts, and perform a few other organizational tasks, described in the Quick Start Guide in the on-line help.
