Our software is always free-of-charge to download and use. You pay OpenEngagement only if you wish to have us install, host and maintain your implementation (see hosted solution) and/or for support services such as training and customization.

What solutions does OpenEngagement plan to offer in the future?
OpenEngagement's current product is OpenEngagement DMS, a document management system. In the future, we plan to bring you OpenEngagement KMS (Knowledge Management System), an accessible online repository for all of your organization's critical internal process and resource information; OpenEngagement WBS (Website Building System) to allow you to create and maintain a polished, professional online web presence for your firm or organization; and OpenEngagement SFS (Shared File Space) to provide a web-based space where your firm can interactively exchange documents with its clients and vice versa.

Is OpenEngagement's software customizable to my business needs?
Yes, you can use OpenEngagement software as-is or we can customize it to your unique needs.


There are x number of people in our firm. Can OpenEngagement DMS accommodate that many users?
OpenEngagement is designed to accommodate a range of numbers of users up to 50. DMS solutions for larger firms can be arranged on a consultancy basis.


Our firm is growing, is OpenEngagement DMS scaleable?
OpenEngagement DMS can handle large numbers of users and very large quantities of data. However, the currently available versions are designed for firms with 1 to 50 staff, and the DMS may perform slowly if firms store very large quantities of data or have a large number of users. DMS solutions for larger firms can be arranged on a consultancy basis.


What are the differences between the hosted and local solutions you provide?

Can I use OpenEngagement with Working Papers?
Yes, OpenEngagement has been designed to interact with and complement Working Papers and will not disrupt your CaseWare Working Papers installation.


I am already a CaseWare user. Why should I consider using OpenEngagement?
You should consider using OpenEngagement because it will enable you to do more with less effort.

As a current CaseWare user, you know that CaseWare enables you to go paperless within an engagement and if you use the new 2006 version to even take advantage of many new paperless and collaborative features (for example, easy integration and annotation of scanned documents, pdfs, and e-mails).

This functionality certainly makes paperless engagements easier to accomplish, but is limited to CaseWare engagements. For other types of engagements and documents you may still be searching for a paperless process.

OpenEngagement DMS is a good solution as it can manage both CaseWare engagements and other (non-CaseWare) engagements and documents, providing a centralized area for the entire firm.


Will OpenEngagement let me access documents from home? When travelling?
Yes, with OpenEngagement DMS you get anytime, anywhere access to your documents provided that you have access to an Internet connection. This capability can really help if you have staff out in the field or want to move towards allowing employees to work from home.


With OpenEngagement will our clients be able to access their documents from anywhere?
It is possible to give clients user accounts and limited access to the DMS. For example, a firm may give some clients permission to read certain documents, though not to edit them. This would not be common though. This functionality will be addressed more thoroughly in the upcoming SFS product.


Will we need new hardware to run OpenEngagement?
The answer to this question depends on the implementation package you choose (local or hosted solutions) and your current hardware configuration. If you choose hosted solutions you need buy no new hardware and will not need to make any modifications to your existing hardware. With hosted solutions OpenEngagement takes care of installing, hosting, and maintaining your implementation on one of our servers, so that you are freed up to concentrate on your firm's business instead of IT concerns like hardware.

If you choose the local solution, you may need to buy new hardware or upgrade your existing hardware to accommodate OpenEngagement's products and of course, unless you contract with us for support services, will be on your own in terms of installing and maintaining your OpenEngagement installation. How often can we expect updates of the DMS?
Updates for OpenEngagement DMS will be released roughly every 6 months.


Will I need a dedicated IT team to maintain OpenEngagement?
The answer to this question depends on the implementation package you choose (local or hosted solutions) and your/your IT staff's level of technological expertise. If you choose hosted solutions you need buy no new hardware and will not need to hire or dedicate an IT team to OpenEngagement as we will take care of installing, hosting, and maintaining your implementation on one of our servers. You can then concentrate on your firm's business instead of IT concerns. Plus, because you pay set fees for the hosted solution, you will not have to worry about IT costs getting out of hand, as you might if you were going it alone.


If you choose the local solution, you may need to hire an IT team or dedicate resources from your present team to OpenEngagement since, unless you contract with us for support services, your firm will be on your own in terms of installing and maintaining your OpenEngagement installation. Will our staff need special training to use OpenEngagement?
OpenEngagement's software is generally user-friendly, easy to use and learn, and product documentation is freely available online. However, if your staff does need training we can provide it for you as part of our support services.


Do you offer customer support? Training?
Yes, we offer a wide range of customer support services, including training packages.


Can OpenEngagement DMS be integrated with our existing software?
OpenEngagement DMS integrates tightly with CaseWare Working Papers, but allows firms to store files of any type. Files such as Word, Excel, Power Point and PDF files can be opened directly from the DMS.
